Our Little Princess P One dark and stormy night, well, dark and stormy day, I woke to the yell of "We're going to get a puppy!". I, not being a very good morning person, didn't quite comprehend what was being said, but I got dressed and headed off to who knows where in a van loaded to take care of a Maltese puppy that weighed less than a large steak. Once we arrived I had pretty much figured out the deal, we were going to get a puppy or we weren't heading home until we did. On ariaval, the greeting came mostly from an adult Maltese, and a Yorky. The first sight of our new puppy came in the living room. She was lying in a babies playpen, curled up to the point of looking like one of the Tribles on the old Star Trek (you know, the one with the cardboard sets). The breeder took her out and handed it to my mother, who, at that point, could not say no. After a few minutes the breeder took her and put her on the floor to see how well she ran around, and the little gerbil took off running like a Jackrabbit. At this point, I was wanting to leave quite badly, mainly because the Yorky was jumping up and licking me on the lips and eating my hat (that was back when I wore a ballcap everywhere I went...) and giving me a "Mother of all" allergy attack. But we picked up the little munchkin and bought her for a tidy sum. We learned that her grandfather was sold for $6,000 and was a hyper-high quality show dog, so our money was well spent. In the following weeks we had many near disasters, like accidental kicks, hit's, and falling out of the computer chair and nearly killing herself. All in all, I'd say that "Princess P", as she came to be known, is the best dog we've ever had. Though she is my mother's dog, she enjoys playing with me. However, her play seems to be more along the lines of "Mortal Combat." I am a lizard/scorpion/fish person myself, but I must admit, Princess P is the nicest dog anyone could have, and Mom loves that little stinker like she was one of her kids, so I guess she's around to stay for a while. |
